If you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backward.
mountain bike race helmet
If you’ve ever seen a bike race on TV, you may have seen a huge pack of riders clustered together riding in what’s called a peloton. It can oftentimes look unorganized but it’s far from it. There are riders strategically jockeying for position within the peloton constantly, and it’s easy to sit in a good position in the peloton and get comfortable only to realize too late that everyone is moving around you gaining a better position. Before you know it you’re at the back of the pack, or worse, left behind. To keep a good position, it’s essential to be moving forward and proactively retaining your position in the pack.

This 26 mile mountain bike race begins and ends in downtown Salida by Riverside Park, located on Sackett Avenue. After the race begins in downtown Salida, riders will cross over Hwy 50 and head up CR 101 to the Rainbow Trail. Riders then begin a rolling six mile stretch of single-track before descending via CR 108, the Little Rainbow Trail, and finally Race Track trail. Riders then head back to downtown Salida.
specialized bike helmets
The race will begin with a mass start at 11am at the F Street bridge in downtown Salida. We expect riders to place themselves in a start position appropriate to their ability.

Please note: this is an approximately 26 mile mountain bike ride at elevations ranging from 7,000 feet to 9,000 feet. It is not a beginner mountain bike course. We will not enforce a strict time cut-off, but do expect participants to be able to complete the course in a reasonable time (under 4 hours).

In addition to athletic happenings, the annual bike race always promises a slew of al fresco block parties and family fun along the course route where there’s plenty of opportunities to cheer on the athletes during the competition.
